Lafayette College Receives $10,000 National Endowment for the Arts Grant

Press Release

Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright announced that the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has awarded Lafayette College a $10,000 grant.

The funds will be used to support Remembering Mulgrew: Perspectives on Jazz Keyboard.

The performance series will commemorate pianist and Easton resident Mulgrew Miller, who died in 2013. The series will feature a diverse, intergenerational range of artists on a variety of instruments, including the piano, the vibraphone, and the Hammond B3 organ. Supplemental activities may include artist conversations with local music students and pre-performance audience talks.

"With this support from the NEA, Lafayette College can continue exploring and contributing to Easton's diverse culture and rich history. But equally important, this grant encourages using art to engage our students and our communities," said Rep. Cartwright.

NEA Chairman Jane Chu said, "The NEA is committed to advancing learning, fueling creativity, and celebrating the arts in cities and towns across the United States. Funding these new projects represents a significant investment in both local communities and our nation's creative vitality."

Established by Congress in 1965, the NEA is the independent federal agency whose funding and support gives Americans the opportunity to participate in the arts, exercise their imaginations, and develop their creative capacities. Through partnerships with state arts agencies, local leaders, other federal agencies, and the philanthropic sector, the NEA supports arts learning, affirms and celebrates America's rich and diverse cultural heritage, and extends its work to promote equal access to the arts in every community across America.
